Writer, editor, author, intrepid traveler:
Harps Ink has got a way with words

Nancy in a nutshell: 25 years in media and communications, including 14 as a journalist, six as senior marketing writer in an agency setting, 9 (and counting!) as the sole proprietor of Harps Ink, and a decades-long sideline as a travel and lifestyles writer.

Corporate gigs Since going solo as Harps Ink in February 2014, Nancy has done repeat work with a variety of clients in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Education, health care, international development, fitness & nutrition, finance & insurance, funerals & wills, charitable giving, marketing automation, Christian communications, oil & gas — you name it, she'll write it:

Online content (websites, landing pages, microsites, social media content, blog posts, emails, etc.)

Book editing, ghostwriting, speechwriting, copy editing, proofreading

Print materials: Trade ads, retail and wholesale sell sheets, proposals, annual reports, press releases, case studies, letters, brochures, white papers, catalogues, newsletters, RFPs, etc.

Creative marketing and advertising copy

Magazine features

Direct response and fundraising campaigns (for mass, "mid-donor" and "mega-donor" audiences)
Video and TV commercial scripts

Personalized communications in digital and print

Retail packaging and point of purchase materials

Nancy also helps clients brainstorm, develop story angles, work out print and digital strategies, and build brand awareness. She's adept at adapting content and tone to different publications and audiences. She takes a client’s direction and gets it right the first time, and can be counted on to manage multiple projects and deadlines with a minimum of fuss.

Big, complicated projects are awesome, but she doesn't turn her nose up at the small ones either. And when it comes time to collect, she plays nice (so don’t expect a writer who charges a fortune.)

Creative gigs Versatility is the key here. When Nancy isn't wearing her day-job marketing hat, she writes freelance travel and lifestyle stuff (published in the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Grand Magazine, Melbourne Herald-Sun, The West Australian, South Africa's New Age, and a bunch of online sites including Free Range Kids and The Great Escape.)

She wrote a book, too, which was mostly fun but also a pain in the ass ... kind of like the subject matter itself. Travellin’ Mama: A Parent’s Guide to Ditching the Routine, Seeing  the World and Taking the Kids Along for the Ride is available on iTunes, Amazon and Kobo.
